EUROPEAN MASTERS INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS - 29th MARCH to 3rd APRIL

Good luck to the 18 SVHC athletes who will be amongst the 735 strong Great Britain & Northern Ireland team travelling to the Ancona, situated on the Adriatic Coast of Italy, to compete in the 6 day European Masters Indoor Championships. The event this year sees a record 7,300 athletes taking part from the 41 European affiliated countries.

Current W40 World Outdoor Long Jump Champion, Fiona Davidson (Aberdeen) will be trying to add the European Indoor Gold to that which she won in Lyon last year. Fiona also goes in the Triple Jump. Fiona will be joined by fellow Aberdeen club members Stan Walker (M45) and Penny Johnson (W55) who go in both the 60m & 200m sprints. Also doubling up in the short sprints is James Smith (Motherwell) in the M70 and Alastair Beaton (Inverness) in the M35s. The sprints also sees Bob Douglas (Harmeny), fresh from his relay success in Lyon, go for individual honours in the M60 60m, 200m and 400m. Regulars at the Indoor Championships, Ronnie Hunter (Corstorphine) goes in the M50 200m and 400m whilst regular travelling companion Ramsay Sloss (Larkhall) goes in the M60 200m. Ramsay's fellow club athlete Angela Lyttle goes in the F45 200m.

Moving to the distance events, the best hope of a medal lies with Scotland's most northerly runner, Alastair Dunlop (Stornoway), who will be looking to get back amongst the medals in both the M60 800m and 1500m. Following their maiden venture into International competition last year in Lyon, it is good to see Clare Barr (Motherwell) return in the W45 800m, Claire Thomson (Victoria Park City of Glasgow) in the W40 1500m, 3000m and 5k Cross Country and Dean Kane (Inverness) go in the M35 1500m and 3000m, all three who returned from the British Masters in Lee Valley with medals. Anglos, Hugh Shields (Thanes Hare and Hounds) goes in the M50 1500m with Archie Jenkins (Morpeth/Ron Hill Cambuslang) going in the M60 5k Cross Country and Lynne Marr (Tynedale/Shettleston) going in the W50 1500m and 5k Cross Country.

An advocate of international competition, W55 Claire Cameron (Victoria Park City of Glasgow) goes in her usual throwing events, Discus, Weight Throw, Hammer and Shot Putt, hoping to follow up from her success at Lee Valley.

Last but not least, a multi medal winner across a number of Masters events, Sue Ridley (Edinburgh Athletic) tries to salvage an injury hit winter in the W50 5k Cross Country.

Full results during the competition will be available athttps://www.emaci2016.it/ or by individuals updating on here.
