The Race Series has once again attracted generous sponsorship from Highland and Islands Retirement Mortgage Solutions (HIRMS). They are an Isle of Harris based company whose proprietor is John Macaskill, a club member and, pretty decent - sub 3 hour marathon - runner.

Need Mortgage Advice? – A Snapshot from John Macaskill
Based on the Isle of Harris, I’ve been involved in financial services since 1995. From 1995 until 2002 I was working for Pearl Assurance as an Area Manager. I then moved on to starting my own business mainly advising on and arranging mortgages, including many self-build projects, and insurance. I now specialise on later life lending with lifetime mortgages, and for this I trade under the Highlands & Islands Retirement Mortgage Solutions name. I am fully qualified,
and a member of The Equity Release Council. I operate throughout Scotland, and England too. My preference is for face-to-face meetings with clients, as this makes things a lot easier for all involved. However, I also offer phone and Zoom meetings.
A lifetime mortgage can be a great option to free up tax-free funds from a property. Many people use lifetime mortgages for gifting to relatives to fund a deposit on a home, home improvements, paying off an interest only mortgage which is coming to the end of term, or simply making retirement more enjoyable! However, not many people know that a lifetime mortgage can also be used to help fund the purchase of a property.
Away from work I run (badly), preferred distances are 13.1 & 26.2. To date I’ve run 24 marathons, but certainly plan to add to this. Favourite marathon is Boston, which I’ve run a few times. I’ve also thoroughly enjoyed competing at a few Masters events over the last few years, specifically EMACS in Aarhus 2017, WMA in Malaga 2018, & EMACS Venice 2019. I was also lucky enough to be picked to represent the Western Isles at the NatWest International Island Games in 2015 which was a great experience. I started running in 2005, a year after packing in a 20-year habit of smoking 60 cigarettes a day!
