Inter-Area Track & Field Challenge

The 2021 match will be held, pandemic willing, on Sunday 18th July in Coventry.

This is a representative track and field competition organised by English Masters where Scotland, Wales, Ireland and various English regional clubs do battle over a full track and field program.

There are Men’s and Women’s teams in the age groups 35-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+.

Track events are 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 2000m walk, sprint hurdles, 4 x 100m relays, and Field events are HJ, LJ, PV, TJ, SP, HT, JT, DT. (The 60+ age groups have a slightly reduced programme of events.)

Selection eligibility requirements are:

1. Paid-up member of the Scottish Veteran Harriers Club;
2. UKA registered.

Individuals make personal transport/accommodation arrangements, although in 2019 there was lots of car-sharing and hotel rooms were block-booked at a preferential rate. SVHC will partially subsidise travel in 2021 and new team members will also receive a kit subsidy for the purchase of SVHC vest and shorts to order personally from SCOTTISH VETERAN HARRIERS CLUB (rfsportsshop.co.uk) (NB subsidies paid post-event).

The selection team comprises Eddie McKenzie and Clare Barr.

Results from Power of 10 are the primary source of information used in selection decisions. They are collated onto a spreadsheet where they are examined objectively.

Selectors also consider current form and communication from athletes and coaches.

For reasons of costs and logistics, total team places are limited, so preference may be given to individuals who can cover multiple events.

Athletes and coaches are actively encouraged to keep the selectors informed of their availability, form and any extenuating circumstances regarding performance.

If you would like to be considered for selection, please email eddiemc@mighty.co.za or clarebarr@yahoo.co.uk with your preferred events.

In 2019, SVHC had a number of events uncovered and a goal in 2021 is to improve on the overall placing by filling as many of the slots as possible. We have some of the best athletes in the UK and are very capable of moving up the rankings.
