New Scottish Masters Outdoor T&F Best Performances in 2021
A successful outdoor season for Scottish Masters track and field athletes especially for Fiona Matheson (Falkirk) who set four British records in her first year in the W60 age group. In the BMC regional races at Linwood on 4th June she ran 10.58.85 for a 3000m record and followed that with an 18.38.75 in the Masters 5000m championships at Kilmarnock on 24th June, 5.08.10 over 1500m at the Masters & Combined Events at Kilmarnock on 10th July and finished with a 39.07.46 for 10,000 at the Masters 10,000 championships in Greenock. Fiona also set a new Scottish Masters best over 800m with her 2.43.27 at the BMAF championships in Derby.
British records were also set by Philippa Millage (VP Glasgow) in the W40 800m with her 2.06.48 at the British and Irish Milers meeting in Belfast on 29th May and Alastair Walker (Teviotdale) in the M65 5000m at the Scottish Masters 5000m championships at Kilmarnock on 24th July. Philippa also set new Scottish Masters figures with her 1500m time of 4.24.98 at the BMC Grand Prix at Watford.
Further Scottish Masters bests were set by Ruth Kirk (Ayr) W50 100m (equalled the manual best, Darren Scott (St. Helens Sutton) bettering his own M50 200m time, Fiona Steele (Motherwell) W55 200m, Andrew Brown (Woodford Green) M40 800m, Paul Forbes (Edinburgh) posted an electronic best in the M60 800m, Jeanette Craig (Springburn) W70 800m & 5000m, Alastair Hay (Central) M35 1500m & 5000m, Morag Millar (Central) W35 3000m & 5000m, Mark Gallacher (Cambuslang) M50 3000m s/c, Jim Buchanan (Dumfries) M55 3000m s/c, James Macgregor (Aberdeen) equalled his own M55 high jump figure, Fiona Davidson (Aberdeen) W45 triple jump, Lorna Brown (Falkirk) W50 javelin, Bill Gentleman (Edinburgh) M80 hammer and Mhairi Porterfield (VP Glasgow) W40 hammer.
